The Future Value of Uneven Cash Flows

Suppose you wish to find the future value of uneven cash flow not the present value. The Texas Instument BA II plus can be used to achieve this goal but it takes a bit of ingenuity. In order to find the future value of any cash flow is also to find its present value. Once that is achieve all we need to do is to find the future value of the present value. In my post “Present Value of Uneven Cash Flows”, it was shown that the present value of the problem was $1,000.17922. Clear that by entering (2nd) then the (FV).

  • Enter -1000.17922 then press the (PV) key
  • Then press 5 (N)
  • Next press 12 (I/Y)
  • Lastly press (CPT) then (FV)

The calculator shows the answer is $1,762.65753

Remember to use the key labeled +/- in the bottom right corner when entering a Negative number. The Texas Instrument BA II plus make this task easy.
