Final Steps for Finishing Bathroom

Once the tile is cleaned of the excess grout it is time to put the final touches on the room to ensure a better fit. Once you have your fixture able to be adjusted firm against the till or wall. It is time to place the decorative rings. Most of these come in the kits and it may appear that you need only to slide them into place. If you choose to only use the fitting ring, make sure water cannot get behind the rings. If it can the use clear latex caulking to prevent this from happening. Remember this may need to be removed for repairs and too much may pull the tile off with it, it could only pull off part of a tile. It is for this reason I purchase too many tiles and keep the at the unit. If the tile pulls out Liquid Nails make a product that is great for resetting a single tile.

Take a moment to enjoy your work when finished and then deep clean the entire room. After the deep cleaning you may need to touch up some paint where the grout or other product changed the painted surfaces finish.

One this is finished I hang the towel-bars, toilet paper holder and hand towel rings one the side of the medicine cabinet. If you are going to hang them in your tile work be sure to use good quality cutting tools, the cheep one may crack your tile. Start your tool at high speed at a 45-degree angle and slowly bring it to plumb to prevent it traveling while in use. Quickly clean the room again and hang the towels and toilet paper. I like to purchase a rug set for the bathrooms. I then hang the shower curtains. If the tub is going to have a curtain they often are adjusted into place or spring loaded into position. However, if you are doing shower doors seal the bottom properly. I prefer doors for myself but not for children. Door requires more maintenance on the room because mold will grow if the door-tracks aren’t cleaned regularly.

I ask the first renter which they prefer and when there are multiple units on the property, I do not like to have all doors or all curtains.

I keep the warranties and the instruction with me but I copy them and place them in a Ziploc bag in one of the drawls for the new occupants. These often give instruction on cleaning tips and the dos and don’ts for cleaning things like stone counter tops. Not ever stone can take the cleaning from every type cleaner and you don’t want your new tenant or yourself to discover that fact on your newly finished work.
