Keeping The Ball Rolling

One of the problems of being self employed is keeping work in front of you close so that you do not have the unplanned breaks in your work.  It is hard to go from earning a income to waiting for the next project to start, but since COVID has hit nothing appears to be returning to normal. In this land of the free, we have permitted some of our freedom to vanish. In California the governor has made it impossible to purchaser a gas lawn mower due to it being gas. How do the electric batteries get charge? By fuel which powered generator in near by states. States which allow their companies and people to make their decisions. States which are permitted to produce electricity to sell to California. If the goal is to reduce the amount of fuel we use to save the world, then how has these actions of the governor achieved this goal. Doesn’t the misbehavior from others states effect the air quality of California. It is these double stances, these stands which have no spine, these positions which affect us but not them which create the confusion.

If you build a better unit, you should take the time and effort to permit that better unit to sell others. I keep a list of people which have come by my projects and inquire about building a unit the need or want. When the framing is near completion, I contact those individuals to invite them to my project. I ask them to wait for me to come and walk them in so they cell phone me when they have arrived. I point out the differences of my workmanship and point to things I wish to have changed in hindsight. I answer their question concerning framing and hand the ligatures concerning the loan process of lenders which fund such projects.

Doing so I often question concerning myths and methods which were used when clients’ dads or grandparents did similar project or by friends and sometime strangers who have to have their opinions known. When you greet these people have your objective in mind but also permit the environment to be relaxed. Your willingness to allow them to come and inspect your workmanship speaks volumes that words alone could not reach to. It is okay to chase those rabbits as long as you steer the conversation back to the objective. If you allow them to aimlessly wonder and do not guide them through your project they may leave confused or with no understanding of why they should use you to build their projects. If your goal is to keep the ball rolling then you need to direct its path. Allowing your project to help you sell your next is one important step in doing so.
