There are those who view the time one spends while waiting for an inspection as waisted time; and there those who view this time as valuable time. The difference is the way in which they approach it. I use these opportunities as time to study and make up mock procedures to learn or better preform tasks. It is the repetition which causes us to think and strive for better solution in preforming a task. Whenever you are preforming a task try to find the repartition and do it first and once, you’re in rhythm keep it going then go back and do another part. Do not overly concern yourself concerning other concept you are not them; you do not have the tools they have nor do you have the same level of skills. Your situation is unique to you.
Carpentry, is for the most part a hands-on education. It’s the repetition which schools us. There are different methods to achieve our goals. Have you figured out why the experienced carpenter’s drawl pictures when purchasing door from a new supplier? It is because they do not know which method the new supplier uses to achieve the door ordering doors.
There are to approaches to order doors:
- Butts in Butts approach If you’re standing on the inside and you but your butt against the hinges then that the butts in butts’ approach.
- However, if you’re standing on the outside and you are against the hinges then you’re using the hardware approach.
The reason this matter is that though the two methods sound similar they come up with different outcomes every time so by drawing the picture your supplier know which method you use and adapts to it or, more then likely adapts your method to the way they have been trained to do it by their suppliers.
An experienced carpenter does not eliminate problems, they approach them differently and reduce the effect they have over the desired outcome. For this reason they know the most important tool used in successfully completing their tasks is their approach and thus they take the steps needed to prepare the area for the task they desire to complete.
