Each morning, I wake up and I go into my home office and I do a section of whatever course I am taking to keep myself up to par on my real estate or construction. I also study and watch You tube videos to learn new products and techniques. I study the methods and applications which the manufactures have concerning their products. Then I go in and prepare myself for the task which I wish to accomplish that day. I have a short list, maybe 3 or four items or only one if it is a difficult task or one involving other people’s compliance. When these have been completed, I may stay at the project to complete minor things which need accomplished or return to my home office to do more study and research.
The truth is about 20 percent of my work in real estate is easily viewable. It takes time to understand what your client if looking for. This is also true when it come to providing a construction service to a client. I build custom room additions, custom ADU’s. I do not work on cookie cutter one size fits all projects. If I were not what is viewed to be a “self-motivated person” I would not be in this business. My hours are long. My research continuous. So, what is it that keeps me taking each little step forward? For me I like helping people by providing a customized service. For others it may be the lure of fame, fortune. These are not bad desires. I do not work for free, and I do want the names of my companies to be known and viewed in a good light. Still there needs to be a proper balance in our lives. If one does everything to please their clients then they will suffer from neglecting themselves and eventually become a burnt-out person. If one concentrates on their prices then they will most likely price themselves out of their industry.
If one were to concentrate on the last two statements of the previous paragraph, they may come to the conclusion that none of it is worth it. So, what makes a person a self-motivated person? What makes you think it is just one thing? I have a dream of helping people afford their homes. Not houses but homes. I believe that if people were to purchase the proper house and grow into it while adapting it to their lifestyle demands they could afford their homes far easier.
This is not to say their will not be lean times. It is to say that a person needs a home; not a house but a home. It not to say that I haven’t been through hard times. It only says that I have a dream of helping people find an alternative way to acquiring their home. It is to say that that dream is part of me; I can’t walk away from it. It is part of me. Find that in yourself and you’ll become a so-called self-motivated person.
My vision is simple. I see myself as someone who is able to help others find their homes. Because of that simple belief I get up and do what I do. I am not self-motivated. I’m not even a self-starter. I see others who need my services and I strive to be the best I can each time I sign my name to a line saying I’ll provide their needed service or services. I believe most self-motivated people also have simple goals. Find those goals and you’ll know if you should be aligned with them or not.
