Despite the rebar, anchor bolts and Hold Down anchors and the mesh we add to our pours today I still do not allow any pipe to penetrate the concrete unprotected. Sometimes it is as simple as wrapping the pipe with a Styrofoam wrapping. It may be running a copper or plastic pipe through a steel sleeve but I do not allow my pipes to run through without protection.
When I dig my footing if the pipe needs to run near the rebar dg it a little deeper so that I have good clearance and my rebar can maintain the proper distance from the trenches bottom.
But I also do not allow my pipes to run over any solid object with out a proper clearance. Some may say that I am over cautious. I say dig up a brown water line that has been clogged because the normal course of nature compacting the soil hac cause a pipe to collapse, and you may become over cautious also.
I dislike digging up a line because someone didn’t take the time to lay the pipe the first time. It seems that threes not enough time to do it right, but always enough time to do it over. If the corporates who installed it wrong had to come back and fix it at their cost they’d stop doing a lot of lazy things. But we live in a land with system where it is designed to fail. It seems that those who cheat the system prosper a lot of the times and the rest of us are forced to pay for their laziness and greed. We must do our jobs to the best of our abilities and start holding the others accountable. Letting them slide through the cracks of the system is allowing it to continue. I was said by someone although many claim to be different men who originated the thought. That all evil needs to prosper is for good men everywhere to do nothing.
Whenever you need to run piping and think about what forces might wish to harm you pipes and protect them from those forces.
