In my last few blogs, I have talked about the tripod needed to form a level platform for integrity.
Integrity, according to Mr. Webster mean:
- Firm adherence to a code of especially moral or artistic values: in corruptibility
- An unimpaired condition: soundness
- The quality or state if being complete or undivided: completeness
I have already written on integrity, Honesty and Trust, but when I did so I wrote about the outward view on them. There is also an inward approach to these legs. Do you truly believe your approach to the goal? You are going to be tested. And if you’re not should out on what your doing is right you will falter. The people you’re leading will only follow as long as they believe you know what you’re doing. Show signs of doubt and they will begin to question, you, your plan and their involvement with them.
Honesty and trust are things you possess and you share with others but creditability is something you must earn and others give to you. You may have the right plan and the right goal but until you have proven yourself through the fire you have little if any creditability.
Creditability is given only when others have seen your trust in the plan, your honesty displayed through your action which demonstrate your belief in the plan. Once you have proven yourself to be honest and trustworthy you may be granted creditability.
Do not be deceived these privileges disappear far quicker than they arrive and once they are gone, they are gone.
The legs of Integrity’s tripod are Trust, Honesty and Creditability, if one of these legs is out of kilter then the Transit of Integrity is unreliable. These legs do not become safe for the base of integrity without work and constant supervision. You must keep your eyes open and your head about you. The best way to have others follow you is to expose them to your plan. Show them how it works for you and benefits them. Prove to them your honesty even when it hurts remain honest, prove to them that they can trust you and that you are creditable. Once you’ve accomplished these things do not faulter. If you make a mistake, admit it and adjust your plan.
There is a cost to being a leader and many in the world have no desire to take that role. But be a true leader not only to you followers but also to yourself.
